The Riot tapes are what I would consider a alternative rock/ Indie band band, this generally mean that they will appeal to a larger audience than other types of music, such as heavy metal. This is because there are neither pop nor rock, they are somewhere in between which leaves me to believe that an alternative/Indie band could be well suited for both demographics, this is because since this genre of music is at neither extreme, therefore I think the target age for this sort of music and therefore the band we have used would be early teens to early adult, so about 13-25 yr old would be the target audience, but I think more people would like it as the music is accessible to basically anyone. However it is difficult to pinpoint an exact group as a target audience of alternative rock/Indie as it's difficult to give a specific gender or age range or class to the alternative rock/Indie genre, as it is rapidly becoming more mainstream, with many Alternative rock/Indie bands reaching the top 10 in the music charts.
I think we would draw in a similar sort of fan base to this band as the fan base of the British band The Mystery Jets.
You do well to link to an example of a signed band Alex, but generally this is a vague attempt to pinpoint your target audience. You could consider audience theory a little more, as well as the effects of lyrics/song content and presence of a female vocalist on the audience.
ReplyDeleteHaving a female lead singer in this genre is music is somewhat of an oddity, the most famous recent band with a similar sort of genre and having a lead singer for me would be Paramore. For me this would mean that the sort of people that listen to Paramore would also listen to The Riot Tapes. This is because there are similarities between the two bands, both banns consist of males on instruments and both have a female vocalist, and I would argue that they are both part of the alternative rock/Indie genre of music. There is a certain attraction of a female vocalist in this music genre as it appeals to a great variety pf people, I feel both fans of pop music and rock music can associate and like such bands as the female softer vocals appeal to pop fans while the riffs and music appeal top fans or a rockier genre. I believe though that this sort of music if mostly targeted at younger people so I would say that the target audience is 13-25 year olds, with there biggest demographic of fans probably being teenager and young adults and female, i beleivr that this sort of music, as shown by Paramore, is highly popular with young women.
