Robin hood and one other ‘British’ films ananlsyed

Media
Robin hood and one other ‘British’ films ananlsyed
Story and Plot: What is the film about? Does it relate to British subject matter
Robin Hood: The film Robin hood is simply about the British legend that was known as Robin Hood, it is a film about Hhis struggle against the evil Sheriff of Nottingham, and how he tries to steal from the Rich and give to the poor. This is about British subject matter as it is set i England about a English myth, which I beleieve makes it a
Green Street: Green Street is a film about English football hooligans, it does realte to British subject matter because it is set in England follows the story of some fans at a English football club, this I British subject matter in my eyes, as it follows British people doing Brisith things British area.
Actors: What nationality? Are stars used in the film?
Robin Hood: Yes stars are used in the film, one of them is Russel Crow, he is of New-Zealand decent and has south African Citenship. Another star in the film is Cate Blabchett again she is Australian. So the two top actors o0n this film abpout Bristish cultrue and neither of them are Britsish, which could suggest that this is not a British film.
Green street: Elijah Wood is the star actor in this film, he is a American actor which shows again that just becuase a film is based in Britain and is about British events it does not mean that eveyything that goes into creating the movie must be English
Director: Who is the director of the film? What nationality are they? Do you know any other films that they have directed?
Robin Hood: The director of the film is Ridley Scott, Ridley scot is actually British. He directed gladioator and Russel Crow was his star actor in that film aswell, this might suggest why he picked russel crow for the lea in this film aswell, so this would be a reaonon why he picedk him again, and this would suggestn why he picked and actor that was nit Biritsh,l also with him being a Bristish director it could give the film a bigger feeling of Britishness.
Green street: The director of this movie is called Lexi Alexander,s he is a German film director, two things abou this director seem odd when you realise that she directed the film green street, for one she is a woman and this film is one of those classic British macho moview about men getting into fight, furthermore she is German and since this is a very British film about British films it is interesting to take into acount that the director is German. However after reading abit about her it seems that she alot about such matter as her brother was a fanatical fan of thier local German side, and that is where she got the inpiration for the movie.

Style: How would you characterise the style of film?
Robin Hood: I would catagorise this style of film as retelling of hsitoric events.
Green street:I would catagorise this style of film as a violent film probably aimed at the male audience as it about both football and violence which is the stereotypcial view of what goes on in the male mind.
Genre: Does it belong to a specific gnere? If so which? Does it remind you of any other films?
Robin Hood: a would catagorise it as a action/history, as it is a action oriontated film thatremakes and retells historic events, I believe that as itr is historic movie about British histpry It can be classed as a British moveiw and this gnere does give it a certain amount of Britishness. IT does remind me of such films as kingdom of heaven, noth films are action orianted films that are based in medieval times.
Green Street: The genre of this movie would probably be classified as action/drama as it consists of aspects of both such films. As for films it remind me of, a film called adulthood comes to mind which is another British film that is about the life on the streets in England and the trouble that comes with it.

Production company: Who financed the film? Where is the production company based? Is it a co-production from different countries? Did any of the films receive funding from the Film Council?
Robin Hood: It was fincanced from a jnumber of production copmpanys, one of the being the directors own, Ridley Scotts, Scott Free productions, so this could be counted as Biritsh company. It was also finacned by Relativty Media, which is a American company and Imagine entertainment, which is another Unitated states based company, so overall it would be fine to assume that the majority of the money for this film came from America, which is a key factor in deciding what nationailty the film can be classed as.
Green Street: Green Street was produced by ther film company caleld Baker Street, sadly i could not find too much information on this production company as the wikepidia page for the had been deleted. However i could find out about the other production company invloved and this company is called Odd Lot Entertainment which is a proudction and financing company based in California, the only other film that Odd Lot Entertainment has helped produce is the blockbuster movie the Spirit.

The idea for this

music video is that we are going to have the characters wearing rough cloths, this is because we went ti connote that they are living on the edge and that they do not care too much about their appearance, also we want it to be suggested that they spend all their money on other things rather than their cloths, this will suggest that they are the stereotypical junkie.

The clothes for the male Character (While he is a junkie)

As you can see from the selection of cloths that I have got pictured out for the male character, I have decided to go for a rather rough look, I believe that darker jeans will be more suitable to the product as the colour black connotes a more mysterious and dark character, and altough not necessary evil this character could be seen as heading down the wrong path in life, as he is taking drugs.

Male character after he has sorted himself out

For this I think it would be appropriate for the character to be wearing a suit suggests that he is successful and maybe a high ranking businessman. The suit in question wll be a classic black blazer black tie black shoes black trouser and white shirt, also if possible we need as much of the whit e shirt to show as possible, thi is because whit e connotes that he is good and because he has changed into this new better person the white shirt will symbolize that very change.

Female character:

The female character will be wearing very similar cloths to that of the male character when he is a junkie but the female character will be wearing cloths like this for the entirety of the product, the same reason as for the male character is why she will wear this, but as her character does not get better I believe that it will also be effective if her cloths act

ually got in a worse condition throughout the prodct, as this will be able to show her worsened state of confusion throughout the product.

Basic Notes on Band and Song

Notes on the band that we are using for our misc video for media

They are called The Riot Tapes.

They are based on Eire.

The song we are using is called: Open Eyed Dream

Open Eyed dream the song is about two drug attics clinging on to each other.

Brief character Bio

Character bio

Sarah: ( Female character) Sarah is the name we are giving our Female character, she is a junkie and will able wearing rough cloths. Sarah has spent the vast majority of her life with Joe, who is her best friend these two do everything together, but is their relationship on the edge…

Joe: (Male character) Joe is the male character, this name is mentioned a few times in the lyrics, and that is why we picked the name for the character, Joe is a junkie but he is a bit annoyed with his life choice at this pionjt in time and is considering getting clean, however he has not told Sarah yet, and he is not sure of he is going to at all.

Analysing the lyrics for the song we are using for our media product (music video)

Analysing the lyrics for the song we are using for our media product (music video)

V1
( In this part of the song we will be setting the scene with a couple of location shots, as well as introducing our two characters, for the lyrics hey joe it might be fitting to have a shot of the female character looking at the male character)
Hey Joe
Where did you go
I have it all ready
Its ready to snow
Got the candlesticks lit
And my body's warm
Come Home

(For these lyrics we will show the character high and having fun together)
I'm just to high to sleep
Open Eyed Dreams

Stars, Streams, Lights Shining x2

CHORUS
( In this part of the song the male character Joe will disappear and the female character Sarah will disappear)
Then I fall down
And you slip away, yeah, yeah x2

V2
Hey Joe
Its all gone so wrong
Remember the good days
Remember our song
Its all just a bit
Too heavy I'm sick
Come Home
(In this part we are going to show our female character looking for the now presumed to be lost male character)

I'm just to high to sleep
Open Eyed Dreams

Stars, Streams, Lights Shining x2

CHORUS
Then I fall down
And you slip away, yeah, yeah, yeah x4

( With these lyrics below we are going to show what is assumed to be the male character in a suit, however when the female character looks at him it will turn out to be someone else)
Hey Joe
Where did you go
I had it all ready.......

Casting, why we picked the two actors we did

Casting for our media music video production we are going to need two actors one male actors and one femal actress, this is becaus in our media production we have one male and one femal part, the actor and actress we have decided to use are Flic Quinn and Jordan McDowell. We have chosen to use these two as they both did GCSE drama and got good grades, and I believe they both are now doing drama at AS level. This means that we have two people who are capable of acting, and as it is a music video the character they are playing will not be speaking parts, so they both need to be a good at improvisation and also very effective at conveying there feeling through facial and body expression rather than using words. Furthermore the characters they are playing are supposed to be good friends, this is a good thing because Flic and Jordan are good friends in real life and should be able to act the part when it comes to filming, as well as the fact that they have known each other for a while they should also be good at acting like they dislike each other and that they are both having trouble with their friendship, and of course that will be vital when filming them slipping further from each other when it comes to filming.

The danger of doing drug reference in our media production and how we are going to do it

Ideas for suggesting drug references in our music video

In our music video we need to reference drug abuse, without being to full on, so the props we are going to use need to be rather discrete. Ideas for discrete drug references that we could use could be, stuff such as normal cigarettes dotted around the floor.

I believe that make up could also be a very effective device to project the illusion that the characters in our music video are taking drugs, for example we could use make up to make there skin look pale, we could use it to give them that classic big eye bag look that some may associate with drug use, but most importantly and effectively I believe that if we could make it look like the characters have a variety of cuts and bruised on them it would like they have been up to no good, which one could associate with drug use.

To show the characters are high we could use the camera technique of filming in day time but using the camera in night vision mode as this can leave an interesting blurred and almost disoriented look, and if we use this effect while using it as a point of view shot it would suggest that the character could be high and that is why the world looks like that.

We must be careful though as I have been told that we can not be to full on when referencing drugs as it then might be unacceptable, and that is the last thing we want when trying to make a music video for A2 media, as it being unacceptable will greatly inhibit our products potential.

Analysing two album covers:
Coheed and Cambria: No World for tomorrow

On this album cover there is man standing in front of a futuristic city. It is in bland boring colours to show that this album is no joke, it looks slightly more serious than other album covers and seems to be telling a story, the world is falling apart and meteors are flying in all directions, it is trying to show I think that the this world is in trouble. Furthermore there is a empty black section on the top left of the cover, is this trying to show that this album is a dark album, maybe a heavier kind of music and not mainstream. There is also no writing on the album cover, this may suggest that the band only expect people who know the band really well to buy their music, I believe this because the bands logo is on the album cover so a Coheed and Cambria fan would automatically recognise the sign and then realise that this is a album they do not yet own.

Mastodon: Crack the Skye

This album cover is almost other worldly, sentient spirits seem to be on either sideof the frame, almost like guardians of a entrance. There is a other worldly looking sphere in the middle of the cover maybe to the two spirits are guarding this possible entrance this might be suggesting that listening to this album is a portal to another kind of music and should not be for the faint hearted, and this sort of music is different to that you have listened to before. The font type on this album cover is rather bold and easy to read and also seems to go with the rest of the album cover, as it seems to be almost mystical. The colours in the album are rather noble and bright colours. The two guardians seem to look like Czar from Russia, Czars would wear colour such as show on this album, this might be trying to show that this album is high quality, as suggested by the colours, or might be trying to show that it is brutal like the Czars were.

Basic plan for music video

Basic plan for our video
First overview
Our Music video will consist of two main actors of which the plot will revolve around.
The story line for the music video is that the two characters have been together for what seems like forever, this includes through their own hellish battle with drug addiction. However one of them makes it through the drug addiction and the other does not, this leaves both characters wondering how good/bad the others liver is and whether they should have tried harder to help the other person. This leaves the character who is still suffering from addiction to feel alienated and this state is elevated by the drugs they use turning into a uncontrollable feeling of paranoia. Some of the music video will follow this addicted character through their trauma. The final scene will be the two characters meeting one final time, the addicted character will still be that, addicted, while the other character will be finally happy and in control of their life. This contrast will be shown through the mise en scene and in particular the costume of the two character, the addict will be in rough cloths abd will look worse for wear, wile the other character will be looking sharp in a suit and will walk past the addict without even recognising them .
Split into parts

  • Part one, will be the two characters together, one male one female, they will be high and will be enjoying themselves and in particular each other’s company. This will give the audience a feeling of the two characters relationship as long lasting friends.
  • Part two. This part will be the breakup of the two characters as the both fight to become clean of their addiction, The male character will eventually win his battle while the female character will lose hers. This will strain the relationship until the male character can no longer wait for the female character to lose their struggle and he will cut her loos of his life
  • Part 3 will be the female character will be feeling alienated and alone and is depressed from losing her friend. As a result she ends up doing even more drugs. We will not seen the male character in this scene
  • art 4. In this climax the two characters will walk past each other and will not recognise each other until it is too late and then we will have a close up shot of the male character turning around with a puzzled look on his face trying to remember the face he once used to know. The mise en scene will be vital in this part as the two character need now to be shown as opposites, the clothing will be the key in showing this, the female character will be dressed in worn tatty cloths to show that she is a junkie, while the male character will be in a suit and will be looking like a valuable member of society.
